DOCKERS JUST HOLD ON
Hull Dockers gained their third successive victory in the NCL Division 2 when holding the late challenge of West Bowling, coming away from Bradford with a 32-34 success. Mike Longthorn's men were quickly out of the starting gate, building up a 16-0 lead before a hat-trick from Bowling's winger Joe Hammond saw the home side race into a 20-16 lead. Dockers pulled themselves together and built what looked an unassailable 34-20 lead before an incredible fightback saw them clinging on at the finish. Dockers are sixth, just two points behind the two sides in front of them with a game in hand.
It looked all over for West Hull's proud unbeaten record in the Premier Division when second-placed Wath Brow Hornets went 20-6 up in the second period in Cumbria. However, Mark Hewitt's men never know when they are beaten and roared back with an astonishing 24 unanswered points to come home with a 30-20 victory. Wests are now four points clear of the Hornets, who have played a game more.
Myton Warriors have had a torrid time in Division 1 for much of the campaign, often losing matches they have been in positions to win, so it was heartening to see them beating Oulton Raiders 26-6 at Marist. The Warriors have another home game next week so hopefully they can begin climbing up the table with another success.
Skirlaugh have been in fine form in Division 1 in recent weeks but their bid for a fifth consecutive victory fell just short at leaders Pilkington Recs, coming away from Lancashire with a 20-12 loss. They have dropped a place into fifth as a consequence but remain in a very handy position for the play-offs.
Beverley's inconsistent form continues in Division 2 and they remain in the bottom half after a 33-18 defeat at Bradford Dudley Hill.
East Hull are having an excellent campaign in the Yorkshire Men's League Premier Division and their fine run continued with a 52-22 drubbing of Nottingham Outlaws at Rosmead Street. In Division 1, Hull Wyke went down 42-20 at Brighouse Rangers while in Division 2 Skirlaugh Bulls were beaten 30-16 at home to Stanningley.
