SHAWN BOATIN: THE FUTURE OF GRM SPORT COULDN'T BE BRIGHTER!
I won't start by boring you with the details of how I started this platform, I'm sure if you searched our archives you'll find I've covered the origins of GRM SPORT a few times. But looking back at where I was this time of year back 2017 compared to where I am now with the platform, it is almost unrecognisable.
Obviously the biggie is the RFL deal! When we initially met, the RFL were already keen to pen me in for a multi-year deal which shows how much they value my work within the rugby league community.
One of the most exciting schemes we are introducing is the Grassroots Spotlight. This will comprise of bespoke micro-promotional videos produced for rugby clubs at no charge to the club.
The main focus of Grassroots Spotlight is to showcase “good news” stories within community Rugby League, with a reduced focus on what happens on the pitch and more emphasis on what is done behind the scenes to keep the rugby club running!

The GRM SPORT team!
In the early days I tried to do everything on my own! I'm still responsible for 99% of the video content you see in GRM SPORT, and without having such a talented team, I wouldn't be able to focus so much on the quality of my content.
GRM SPORT started with just me and John Mooney, but now we've grown to a modest size of 6! With Nathan Taylor and Lauren Sutton co-hosting the podcast with me and Harry Brigham joining as a rugby correspondent working alongside John.
My partner Jessica initially joined as a netball editor but her role at GRM SPORT is more of a general dogsbody and helps me massively with the commercial side of things.
This year is a bit of a transitional year for us working with the RFL for the first time, but I am sure from Season 4 (March 2020) You’ll start to notice big changes to the platform!
GRM RUGBY, SEASON 3 SO FAR.
So far I have been to 22 rugby games in 9 weeks, producing our typical style of cinematic match highlights. Thanks to RFL support I have been able to produce videos featuring teams from London and Lancashire which is massively improving our reach.
In no particular order here are the top 3 games I have covered so far this season and why.
You can click each image to watch the videos on the GRM SPORT YouTube channel!
Episode 7 between these two NCL Premiere division giants didn’t fail to entertain. Plenty of massive hits, tries and a bit of drama to keep us on our toes!
Episode 5, cinematically not the best video I have ever put together but the most watched video on GRM SPORT with 60 Thousand views! Despite not being the best quality video, I do sit back with pride knowing that through GRM SPORT, West Hull and Holderness Vikings were able to show off their skills on an international stage with an audience Super League teams would be proud of.
The final video which makes my top 3 so far has to be episode 21! Wigan St Judes’ Gavin Rodden running absolute riot all over the pitch scoring four tries, but Judes weren’t out of the woods after a sensational comeback lead by the West Bowling hooker. Who won? You’ll have to watch on GRM SPORT to find out!
Boxing and Netball
Our boxing and netball content has been very limited, but this was always the plan. Rugby League is the reason why this platform was built and will remain the core focus. Having said that, I am committed to further increasing our boxing and netball products as the years roll on!
Finally I just want to say a huge thank you to the grassroots community who share my work, the two go hand in hand so without people actively engaging with the videos, articles and podcasts this platform wouldn’t but what is is today!
