Getting behind Ben Bradshaw!
Rugby loving Ben Bradshaw, 18, has played rugby since the age of 12 with spells at East Hull before returning back to Myton to play for the Under 18s and Open Age First Team.
I first came to know Ben in the early stages of GRM, I was filming Myton Warriors under 18s who were playing at home against Castleford Panthers. The game was very physical and Ben cut his lip whilst making one of his usual hard running, no-nonsense carries. The scene of Ben frantically asking his mum to "tape his lip shut" so he can carry on playing became one of the most iconic moments of the 2017 season.
Ben has recently been selected to represent England in a tour of Serbia, I recently caught up with him to find out a little bit more!
1.When were you selected to represent Yorkshire?
" I was selected to represent Yorkshire in 2016 however shortly after selection I suffered a serious injury requiring surgery. This put me out for the season. I came back fighting in 2017 and worked hard during the trials and was selected for the team.
We played two warm up games against Stanningley Academy and Yorkshire’s open age before the series started. We played against Lancashire and Cumbria but I only played in the Cumbria game because I was injured."
2. What have you experienced since being called up to play for Yorkshire?
"Since being selected, I have experienced different variations of plays and how they effect the attack and the defence which is good because then I understood the game better".
3.What is the Serbia tour all about?
"The Serbia tour is to play in the u19s European championships in which I’ll be representing England and it is from the 4th to the 12th of August"
4. How much money do you need to raise and what kind of fundraising events do you have planned?
" I need to raise £1,200 and I have done some little things like raffles and bus stops at the games, I’m also trying to get sponsorship through company’s and a go fund me page".
5. Why is this tour important to you?
" This tour is important to me because rugby is all I've ever wanted to do. I absolutely love the sport. I give 100% every game. I am totally overwhelmed that I have been selected to represent my country! My ultimate goal is to be able to play rugby as my career. This job wouldn’t ever feel like work.
