John Mooney: West Hull National Cup Success!
West Hull have progressed to the quarter-finals of the Barla National Cup thanks to a 24-0 victory over Sharlston at North Road.
The Green and Golds were 12-0 up after just ten minutes thanks to an Ian Kerman double and two Ryan Wilson conversions, the second after a fine break from Louis Crowther. They had to wait another twenty minutes to score their third when Jack Lazenby went over for an unconverted score.
The visitors, though outgunned up front by the powerful Bobby Tyson-Wilson, Ryan Steed and Oscar Ellerington, stuck to their task manfully in the second period with prop Liam Kendall and loose-forward Craig Miles working tirelessly to stem the flow and it wasn't until just over the hour that Ryan Langton, returning to the side after a spell with The University Of Hull, took the score to 20-0. The visitors, to their credit, never gave up but a last-gasp effort on West's line resulted in a loose ball being picked up by Kerman and a swift passing movement through several pairs of hands ended with Callum Windley completing a length of the field score. A visit to Dewsbury next week to take on Division Two Conference side Thornhill Trojans faces the winners.
