John Mooney: North Hull Knights vs Beverly Braves
A big crowd saw a strong Beverley Braves pack outgun a spirited North Hull Knights at Shaw Park in the Yorkshire Men's League Premier Division. The Knights gifted possession to their opponents twice in the opening exchanges, both times resulting in tries, one of them converted.
The visitors scored again on the half-hour before, against the run of play, North Hull got a converted try back after a sweeping move. A penalty on the hooter saw the Braves go into the break with an 18-6 lead.
The second half saw Beverley's powerful forwards take control and they raced into an unassailable 28-6 lead but the Knights never gave up and their resilience was rewarded with two converted tries in the later stages when they played their best rugby of the match, a tribute to their never-say-die attitude and fitness levels on a very warm and humid evening.
Beverley travel to Nottingham on Saturday.
